I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I loved Mazey Eddings’ first book, A Brush With Love, so I was excited to read her second romance.
About Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake
Lizzie is a chaos demon, always forgetting things, falling down rabbit holes, and disappointing people. She’s on the verge of getting fired. Again. And it looks like she’s getting stood up too. Until she meets Rake, a buttoned-up but gorgeous Aussie in town on business. They engage in a fun whirlwind hookup, enjoying each other’s company but knowing a US – Australia relationship is too long distance.
Lizzie gets fired. Even scarier? She’s pregnant. And her whole world is in for some huge changes because Rake, despite his fears, is all in on being a co-parent. He gets a transfer and an apartment big enough for Lizzie and the coming baby.
My thoughts about Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake
As an ND person, I loved such a great description of what ADHD is like. Lizzie is so relatable – how her thoughts are either hyperfocused or all over the place. ND people being told they’re too much is so common. Along with being told they just need to try harder or be more organized.
Rake was so sweet – wanting to care for Lizzie, defending her to her friends and family – even though he had his own emotional trauma to deal with. I was definitely rooting for him and Lizzie to work. And they definitely had some hurdles with an unexpected pregnancy, being continents apart, and new jobs.
The sweetness of them living together but not being sexual or emotionally entangled gave rise to some sweet moments but also some funny ones. And some OMG would they just talk and do it already moments
Lizzie’s relationship with her parents broke my heart. Again, Mazey Eddings did such a fantastic job looking at family dynamics when one child is ND and one is NT.
