About Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers
Vera Wong, widow, tea house owner, and holder of Very Strong Opinions About How Things Should Be Done finds a body in her tea house. She helpfully draws an outline around the body in Sharpie and then calls the police. She’s unsatisfied when they don’t investigate the way she’s seen on CSI and L&O. So Vera decides to take matters into her own hands and find the killer.
My thoughts about Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice
The book’s written with wickedly sharp humor and a tightly woven plot. It’s also about the hurt our families can give and the unexpected joys of found family. Vera is a delight as she bosses everyone around. She weaves bonds of friendship with and between them even as she investigates her suspects. I couldn’t put it down and laughed out loud multiple times. And the descriptions of the tea and food were mouthwateringly delicious. Perfection!
In closing
If you enjoyed Jesse Q. Sutanto’s heist/romcoms, Dial A for Aunties and Four Aunties and a Wedding, Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers has the same madcap feel. Such a fun read – I laughed so much reading it!
