About Buried in a Good Book
This is the first in a new cozy mystery series featuring successful mystery writer Tess and her daughter Gertie. Tess is a recently divorced mom on a tight deadline so she’s off to a cabin in the woods without the distractions of WiFi and electricity. Gertie is unhappily accompanying her.
Within moments of arriving, an explosion in the nearby pond rains not only dead fish but body parts from a corpse. Since she researches and writes mysteries, Tess is sure she can help out the local sheriff. He’s definitely sure she can’t.
My thoughts about Buried in a Good Book
This has your cozy tropes of:
?Small town with quirky characters
?Gruff but sexy sheriff as a potential love interest
?Doofus ex
?Helpful librarian
?Lots of secrets, hidden agendas
?Nosy MC who’s smart but makes some missteps
?Humor
?Bigfoot?!
I enjoyed Tess – while smart, she doesn’t have all of the answers, clearly loves her teen daughter, and is incredibly determined.
Gertie was a treat – angsty and sometimes angry, a reader! A graphic novel lover, and a smart cookie.
The mystery kept my interest with plenty of twists and aha! moments. Although the ending felt like it came out of left field, I can’t say I was unhappy with the results.
In closing
I’m intrigued to see Tess and Gertie’s adventures in the next book.
