About Calamity

In Calamity, Temper was banished from her aristocratic family and privileged lifestyle of the Fifteen Families by her brother. Now she’s part of the crew of a spaceship and secretly in a relationship with the captain.

Temper is ready to go public with their relationship. Then the mission goes sideways. She discovers that her lover is cheating with the ship’s intern. Worse, he leaves Tempest and the crew to follow the aristo intern back to her wealthy family.

Temper agrees to buy the ship  to keep the crew together. Now she’s burdened with crippling debt and the need to find a lucrative scouting job ASAP.

Then the powerful Escajeda Family offers them what seems like a straightforward scouting mission to a backwater planet. The catch? Second child of the powerful family, Arcadio Escajeda is going with them.

My thoughts about Calamity

Bramble is a new imprint from Tor focusing on romance. And I’m totally living for it. Calamity is the first book I’ve read from them and if this is the quality of book they’re offering, bring me more!

Calamity is Constance Fay’s debut novel. It’s a fast-paced, high stakes space opera full of intrigue coupled with an enemies-to-lovers, slow burn, forced proximity romance that brings the steam. The insta-heat between Temper and Arcadio scorches.

There’s great universe building with the Haves scheming among their ranks, always looking for even more power while the have-nots try to scrabble out a livable existence.

You get a found family of misfits vs privileged family loyalty with revenge and intrigue. Secret missions with hidden agendas. Plenty of cheering for the underdog. The author’s created some really engaging and likable characters, as well as some characters that you’ll love to hate.

In closing

Calamity is a fantastic read and I can’t wait for Fiasco, the next book in the series.

For fans of Ilona Andrews and Jessie Mihalik.
