I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I enjoy every new book in this series more than the one before. Delicious coffee love paired with Portland vibes served with a twisty, cozy mystery.
About Flat White Fatality
Coffee cart and roastery owner, Sage takes on a side hustle – modeling for the graphics department at her boyfriend Bax’s gaming company. She’s all in on a company outing, a team-based scavenger hunt. Until one of Bax’s employees turns up dead in Sage’s roastery.
Sage has a big incentive to find the killer because at the moment the two main suspects are her and Bax.
My thoughts about Flat White Fatality
I loved the layers of mysteries that Sage had to keep unraveling to find the killer. Not figuring out the killer always makes me happy.
Emmeline Duncan does a fantastic job of giving the feel of Portland – with issues like the unhoused, poverty, and gentrification. I appreciate a bit of grit in my cozy. I want coffee houses in my area to do what Sage does with her board of prepaid menu items that anyone can claim – no questions asked.
But there are plenty of lighter moments to balance out the grit – like the participants of the scavenger hunt all wearing duck onesies.
And I love the coffee knowledge, recipes, and tips. I started using coffee grounds in my refrigerator as a deodorizer thanks to this series.
In closing
This series is perfect for fans of Tara Lush and Leslie Budewitz.
My review of Double Shot Death, the second book in the series.
