About Charlotte Illes Is Not a Detective
For fans of Veronica Mars, Charlotte Illes was a child detective – solving mysteries in her hometown that the police and other adults couldn’t. Now that she’s in her 20s, she’s ready to move on but to what? She’s not sure but she knows she doesn’t want to solve mysteries. Until her brother asks her to investigate his GF’s stalker.
My thoughts about Charlotte Illes Is Not a Detective
What starts off as something simple, turns into a multi-layered mystery with murder, union busting, and a missing person. This tightly plotted, fast-paced mystery is thoroughly engaging as Charlotte wrestles with taking up investigating but can’t stop wanting to know what’s going on. Her two besties give her an assist and provide for some lighter moments.
Written by TikTokker @katiefliesaway this is a clever debut that feels very now in the best of ways with pro-union plot points and LGBTQIA+ rep that feels natural. The plot is satisfyingly twisty, the banter witty, and the characters are relatable and likable.
In closing
Charlotte Illes Is Not a Detective is a must-read for contemporary mystery fans.
